Architecture Design for Feature Extraction and Template Matching in a Real-Time Iris Recognition System

Real-time support for an iris recognition algorithm is a considerable challenge portable system that commonly used in the field. In this paper, efficient parallel and pipeline architecture design feature extraction template matching processes Ridge Energy Direction (RED) presented. Several techniques proposed to reduce computational complexity while supporting high performance capability include (i) circle approximation method unwrapping process, (ii) with on-chip buffer 2D convolution (iii) log2 inverse-log2 conversion process. Performance analysis shows achieves speedup of 881 times compared conventional method. The can be integrated embedded microprocessor realize complete system-on-chip solution system.
